Project Description

The Hashan Kehk Community Center is a 35,000sf facility designed specifically for District 2 within the Gila River Indian Community. The project included key stakeholders in the programming stages of the project to ensure community buy-in. The multi-generational community center includes fitness and gymnasium spaces, education spaces, activity rooms, a track and weight room, indoor and outdoor gathering spaces, and administration space.

Integrating key elements of importance to the community of Hashan Kehk became the catalyst for the design of the District 2 Multi Purpose Building. Just as the building brings together multiple generations, so does the design bring together the land, the culture, and the namesake of the community. Weaving together the contours of the land, the view of Yellow Peak, the textures of traditional baskets and the inspiration of the saguaro resulted in a design that was rich in meaning to the community.
